June 10 - 14

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Thank you to Parent Council for the experience of Trickster this week.  The students learned a lot of fun games and were able to experience a real theatre performance with lights, music, staging etc.  Thank you to our parent volunteers for helping with costumes and with the show.  Thanks to Ms. Jessica, Ms. Anna and Mr. Ken and all our other amazing volunteers!

Thank you to all the parents who came to watch the performance!  We all appreciated your support.

Upcoming Field Trip to the zoo is on Monday June 17th with our grade 4 buddies.  Thank you for returning the forms.  We are very excited about our field trip tomorrow!  Please make sure your child has a snack and a lunch with water to drink.  Thank you to all our parent volunteers and to parent council for paying for our students to go to the zoo.

Literacy:

Our morning messages have been missing letters at the ends of words and we are learning to figure out the missing letters by listening to the sound that the letters make.  We are continuing to listen to sounds in the middle of words and trying to figure out the letter and how to spell the word.

We had time each morning to work with our Trickster Artists.  Mr. Gamble and Mr. Liam worked with the Kindergarten students.

We read a factual story about penguins and discussed where penguins live (habitat), what they eat (food), and interesting facts.

Math:

This week in math we continued practicing non-standard measurement.  We used a variety of containers at the sand table to measure what holds more, less and are there any containers that hold the same equal amounts?

We played with a variety of math activities this week, including geo boards, dominoes, and dice games.

Centres:

The doll house and Lego has helped to tell stories. The light table, marble works, Lincoln Logs, puzzles, paint and arts and crafts are other centres that the students enjoy visiting and exploring how to build structures and design their art work.  The foam letters have also been added and the cars and car mats are providing some new experiences for students to tell stories.

We also had a chance to visit the ducks in Ms. Casey's class this week.
