May 21 - May 24

Library Day is Thursday.  Please help your child remember to return their books so they can choose a new story to share. with you.

Dear Kindergarten Families,

We have music on Monday and Wednesdays.  Please help your child to arrive on time so we are ready for music at 8:00.  We learned a new song in music this week.  We will keep practicing it and learning movement actions that go with our song next week.

Thank you to Ms. Nida for volunteering in our classroom this week.

Upcoming Field trip to the zoo on Monday June 10th.  A HUGE THANK YOU to parent council for paying for this field trip for all of us! This will be an All Day field trip.  Your students will be at school from 8:00 - 2:30.  *We need volunteers for this field trip.  If you have your police Clearance from the CBE police check program and are able to volunteer please let me know.

Thanks.

Literacy:

Our morning messages have been missing letters at the ends of words and we are learning to figure out the missing letters by listening to the sound that the letters make.  We are now listening to sounds in the middle of words and trying to figure out the letter and how to spell the word.

We practiced spelling words on the white boards this week.  We also worked on printing our letters going from top to bottom and finding pictures that we can draw that begin with the letters we are printing.  This week we printed the letter ' Mm, Rr and Zz.'

We read the story Little Cloud by Eric Carle, and we painted shapes that we saw in the book or shapes that we have seen in clouds using white paint.

Math:

This week in math we introduced non-standard measurement.  We used a variety of containers at the sand table to measure what holds more, less and are there any containers that hold the same equal amounts?

We worked on the number 9 this week and found various ways to add numbers together to make 9.

Centres:

We have set up a camping centre that has been a huge success with the students.  We have talked about how we cook over an open fire or take along a camp stove.  This week we read the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar again and created props so the students could retell the story during centre time.  Many of the students enjoyed this centre. The light table, marble works, Lincoln Logs, puzzles, paint and arts and crafts are other centres that the students enjoy visiting and exploring how to build structures and design their art work.

Gym:

This week we went outside and ran to the soccer posts and ball diamond then we played at the park. We played Ship to Shore as well as a few racing games and Duck Duck Goose.

                                                                 Buddies:

This week we did a butterfly craft with our buddies.  We used coffee filters, markers and spray bottles to blend the colours together.
