June 3 - 7

All Library Books are due Thursday, June 13th.  Please help your child remember to return their books.

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Thank you to Ms. Nida for volunteering in our classroom this week.

Upcoming Field Trip to the zoo is on Monday June 17th with our grade 4 buddies.  Bright pink forms were sent home Friday and need to be returned as soon as possible please.

June 10 - 14th we will be learning from a group of talented artists about from Trickster.  They will help us learn to perform from our Earth Science topic in our science curriculum for kindergarten.  Parents are invites to the performance on Friday June 14th from 8:30 - 10:00.

Literacy:

Our morning messages have been missing letters at the ends of words and we are learning to figure out the missing letters by listening to the sound that the letters make.  We are now listening to sounds in the middle of words and trying to figure out the letter and how to spell the word.

We practiced spelling words on the white boards this week.  We also worked on printing our letters going from top to bottom and finding pictures that we can draw that begin with the letters we are printing.  This week we printed the letter ' Xx and Yy.

We read factual stories about polar bears this week.  We drew pictures of polar bears and talked
about where they live and what they eat.  We learned they live in the Arctic and not the Antarctic.

Math:

This week in math we continued practicing non-standard measurement.  We used a variety of containers at the sand table to measure what holds more, less and are there any containers that hold the same equal amounts?

We practiced matching dominoes to numbers in our parking lot game.

We looked at a variety of geometric shapes and discussed what ones were thicker or thinner, bigger or smaller and identifying the geometric shapes.

Centres:

We have added a doll house and Lego to create stories and play with smaller characters. The light table, marble works, Lincoln Logs, puzzles, paint and arts and crafts are other centres that the students enjoy visiting and exploring how to build structures and design their art work.  The foam letters have also been added and the cars and car mats are providing some new experiences for students to tell stories.

Gym:

This week we went outside and ran to the soccer posts and ball diamond then we played at the park. We played with soccer balls, learning how to dribble the ball and using the side of our foot to kick the ball when we want to shoot it on net.

Buddies:

This week we designed animal habitats with our buddies.  We also went outside and practiced walking as a group to prepare for our field trip to the zoo.
