Literacy:

Our morning messages have been missing letters at the ends of words and we are learning to figure out the missing letters by listening to the sound that the letters make.  We are now listening to sounds in the middle of words and trying to figure out the letter and how to spell the word.

We practiced spelling words on the white boards this week.  We also worked on printing our letters going from top to bottom and finding pictures that we can draw that begin with the letters we are printing.  This week we printed the letter 'Kk, and Ll'.

We read the story the Very Hungry Caterpillar and we went outside on a scavenger hunt on Wednesday to find a variety of objects in nature: Some of the objects we looked for were flowers ( dandelions) , trees, green leaves, etc.

Math:

This week in math we introduced non-standard measurement.  We used a variety of containers

( Thank you parents for bringing in a variety of containers!) to measure volume with sand. We will continue to explore this topic using volume, comparing one object to another on the balance scale and using other objects to measure length and width.  Parents this is a fun activity to try at home.  You can use pencils, pencil crayons, shoes, etc.

We worked on the number 8 this week and found various ways to add numbers together to make 8.

Centres:

We have set up a camping centre that has been a huge success with the students.  We have talked about how we cook over an open fire or take along a camp stove.  We have the train centre and some creative designs for tracks have been built as well as using the large hollow blocks to build bridges and tunnels for the train to travel over and under.  The light table, marble works, Lincoln Logs, puzzles, paint and arts and crafts are other centres that the students enjoy visiting and exploring how to build structures and design their art work.

Gym:

This week we played belly kickball and we played Ship to Shore as well as a few racing games and Duck Duck Goose.
