April 2 -5

Dear Kindergarten Families,

We have music on Monday and Wednesdays.  Please help your child to arrive on time so we are ready for music at 8:00.  This week music was cancelled on Wednesday.

Thank you to Ms. Nida for helping in our classroom this week. She planted flowers with the students and played a few memory games and writing practice.

We have had a very busy week.  We learned about the needs of plants and read a few factual stories about plants.  We shared puppet shows with our friends.  The train centre is back and we are having fun delivering our flowers to different places on our train route.

Literacy:

This week in literacy we read books about plants and spring. We learned that plants get their food from the stem.  If a plant didn't have a stem they wouldn't get water and other nutrients they need to survive.

Our morning messages have been missing letters at the ends of words and we are learning to figure out the missing letters by listening to the sound that the letters make.  We are even learning the "ing" ending in the word morn(ing).

We listened to the story:

Over in the Meadow by: Jan Thornhill.  We have searched. for a variety of items that she used in her story to make the pictures.

We have listened to some spring stories during snack this week.  We also discussed things we see in our morning talks on the days we don't have music with the Lofi Cat on you Tube.

Math:

This week in math we continued working on number talks.  We are learning that there are many ways to represent a number.  We practiced playing Memory with cards and with a partner this week. We talked about numbers that come before a certain number and numbers that come after a certain number. For example: what number comes before 5?  What number comes after 8?  We also continued putting two numbers together to get the sum.

Centres:

At the Flower Shop Centre, we have forms to fill out for customers who come into the shop or oder over the telephone, we have tissue paper and ribbon to make bouquets, we have flower pots and vases to make flower arrangements, we have garden tools to pretend to plant a garden and a cash register to pay for services at the flower shop.  Ask your child to share something they enjoyed at the flower shop centre this week. We have get well cards to make for our sick friends, or greeting cards to celebrate special occasions like birthdays, weddings, or graduations to continue to promote or writing skills.  We use white boards and paint to make letters and numbers.  The light table, blocks, puppet stage, Lego, marble works, and train station were centres that were visited by the students this week.

Gym:

We had the gaga ball pits set up this week in gym so we were able to play gaga ball.  We also played doggie doggie where's your bone?

 Buddies:

We made a (kind *er* Garden with our  with our buddies.  We drew, created, coloured or painted flowers to go into our garden. We will continue to grow our garden with kindness.
