April 15 - 18

Dear Kindergarten Families,

We have music on Monday and Wednesdays.  Please help your child to arrive on time so we are ready for music at 8:00.  This week in music we learned to keep the beat using rhythm sticks.

Thank you to Ms. Nida for volunteering in our classroom this week.

We have had a very busy week. We checked on our plants each day to see if they needed water, and if we noticed any sprouts.  Almost all of our plants have sprouted and some are twice the size of the pot.

Literacy:

Our morning messages have been missing letters at the ends of words and we are learning to figure out the missing letters by listening to the sound that the letters make.  We are learning the "ing" ending in the word morn(ing) and other words that appear on our morning message such as the word end(ing).

We listened to the story:  The Three Bears.  We compared two different stories written by different authors.  We put the story in order using pictures that we cut out and pasted.  We also cut out big, medium and small objects and pasted them on the correct column on our worksheet.

We also discussed things we see in our morning talks on the days we don't have music with the Lofi Cat on you Tube.

Math:

This week in math we counted forwards and backwards.  We continued to work on number talks and matching the numeral to the correct number of objects.

Centres:

At the Flower Shop Centre, we had lots of forms to fill out for customers who came into the shop and ordered over the telephone.  We used tissue paper and ribbon to make bouquets, we planted pretend flowers in the flower pots.  Ask your child to share something they enjoyed at the flower shop centre this week. We have get well cards to make for our sick friends, or greeting cards to celebrate special occasions like birthdays, weddings, or graduations to continue to promote or writing skills.  We use white boards and paint to make letters and numbers.  The light table, blocks, puppet stage.  We did some decodable reading and some sight word recognition during centre time this week.

Gym:

We started our gymnastics unit this week.  Thank you for helping your child dress for gymnastics.  We started using the mats and the floor this week.  We learned how to do a variety of stretches, how to travel in a variety of ways on the mats and the floor and how to start our routine with a balance and end with a balance.
