March 4 - 8

Dear Kindergarten Families,

We have music on Monday and Wednesdays.  Please help your child to arrive on time so we are ready for music at 8:00.  This week music was cancelled on Wednesday.

We have had a very busy week.  We learned new math games using cards. We read factual and fiction stories about animals to support our Vet Centre.  We shared puppet shows with our friends and some of them were recorded.

Literacy:

This week in literacy we read about different kinds of jobs veterinarians have. Some work in clinics in the city, some work with farm animals, some work with wild animals.  We drew a picture of our favourite farm animal and our favourite ocean animal.

Our morning messages have been filled mixed up words that we have helped our teacher fix.   We are learning that capital letters go at the beginning of a sentence or at the beginning of our name not in the middle of a word or sentence.

We read the book The Boy Who Ate Books,  By: Oliver Jeffers.  We discussed what happened at the beginning and end of the story.  We enjoyed the story and discussed if the story was factual like our story about Veterinarians or fiction.  Ask your child to share what they thought about this story.

Math:

This week in math we continued working on number talks.  We are learning that there are many ways to represent a number.  We learned how to play Memory with card and with a partner this week.  Some of us also learned how to play War.  The person with the highest number gets to take the card of the person with the lowest number.

We had to solve a problem in math. We needed to figure out how to get 8 legs on our boat.  If we put too many legs on our boat it would sink if we put the correct number it would float if we didn't have enough legs on our boat it wouldn't be able to get off the dock.  Ask your child how they solved this problem.

Centres:

At the Vet Centre, we have forms to fill out, a scale to measure our stuffies using a stethoscope, thermometers to take temperature, a cash register to pay for services at the vet.  Ask your child to share something they enjoyed at the vet centre this week. We have get well cards to make for our sick pets to continue to promote or writing skills.  We use white boards to make letters and numbers.  The light table, blocks, puppet stage, Lego, sand table, cars and big blocks were centres that were visited by the students this week.

Gym:

We introduced a variety of racquets to balance and catch beanbags and badminton birdies on this week.  We also played duck duck goose and Doggy Doggy Where's Your Bone. They really enjoyed our circle games.

 Buddies:

We played at our new centres with our buddies.  We also shared our ocean pictures with our buddies.

Art:

We did a guided drawing of a person this week. We did not colour this drawing.
