February 20 - 23
Dear Kindergarten Families,
We had so much fun in music this week! We have music first thing on Monday and Wednesdays. Please help your child to arrive on time so we are ready for music at 8:00.
We have had a very busy week. Thank you for bringing in the amazing letter treasures for our word search letter hunt game. The students have been so excited to share and tell about their treasures.
We sorted our treasures in a variety of different ways this week. We continued to sort our treasures in a variety of ways. We are learning how to compare objects using mathematical language such as heavier, lighter, longer and shorter.
Literacy:
Our morning messages have been filled mixed up words that we have helped our teacher fix. We are learning that sentences begin with capital letters and end with a period.
We read the book Stuck By: Oliver Jeffers. We did a guided drawing of a tree then used pictures to make our own tree from the story.
Math:
This week in math we continued working on number talks. We are learning that there are many ways to represent a number. We can write the numeral (8). We can draw objects. We can use talley marks. We can write the name of the word (eight). We used dominoes to match dots to another domino. We looked at different ways to make numbers with our fingers. See how many ways you can make a number at home with a variety of objects. Example: 2 fingers and 3 toes. How many all together?
Centres:
At the Post Office centre we continued to have lots of fun writing on a variety of paper, stamping and making pictures and mail for our friends and family. The light table, blocks, lite Brite, Lego, sand table, cars and big blocks were centres that were visited by the students this week.
We began continued with our dance unit in gym on Tuesday and started using racquets and beanbags or birdies on Thursday. We also played duck duck goose. They really enjoyed our circle game.
Art and Buddies:
We did a guided drawing of our trees from the story Stuck by Oliver Jeffers yesterday. Today we coloured our trees with pencil crayons or oil pastels. We then cut out pictures of things that got stuck in the tree.
