February 12 - 14

Dear Kindergarten Families,

There is NO SCHOOL on Thursday and Friday this week or Monday next week.  We will see everyone on Tuesday, February 20th. Have a great weekend! 

We had so much fun in music this week!  We have music first thing on Monday and Wednesdays.  Please help your child to arrive on time so we are ready for music at 8:00.  

We have had a very busy week.  Thank you for bringing in the amazing letter treasures for our word search letter hunt game.  The students have been so excited to share and tell about their treasures.  

 Our letter on Tuesday is "Vv". and our letter on Wednesday is "Zz".  On Thursday students are asked to bring in their favourite treasure and share why they picked this one and what letter it starts with and the sound represented by that letter.   Happy Treasure hunting!

We sorted our treasures in a variety of different ways this week.  We continued to sort our treasures in a variety of ways.  We are learning how to compare objects using mathematical language such as heavier, lighter, longer and shorter. 

Literacy:

This week in literacy we shared the letter  "Xx" and "Qq". treasures.  We sorted them in a variety of ways.  We also drew a picture of our treasure and then wrote one or more sentences about them.  We have some word cards on our word wall board for the students to hunt and find what they want to write about.  Some of the words are colour words, some are shape words others are descriptive words. 

Our morning messages have been filled mixed up words that we have helped our teacher fix.  We are learning that sentences begin with capital letters and end with a period.  

Math:

This week in math we continued working on number talks.  We are learning that there are many ways to represent a number.  We can write the numeral (4).  We can draw objects. We can use talley marks. We can write the name of the word (four). We also worked on the number three and four in our math books. 

Centres:

At the Post Office centre we have had lots of fun writing on a variety of paper, stamping and making pictures and mail for our friends. The light table, blocks, lite Brite, Lego, sand table, cars and big blocks were centres that were visited by  the students this week.  

Gym:

We began our dance unit in gym.  We learned to do a variety of stretches on Yoga mats.  We had a dance party in our classroom for our Valentine's celebration.
