December 4 - 7

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Thank you for supporting our book fair.  Thank you so much to Mrs. Nida for helping volunteering in our classroom this week.  Our Winter Market was a huge success.  All the proceeds will be donated to the Calgary Food Bank.

Literacy:

This week in literacy we read The Gingerbread Man.  We are working on our Gingerbread book writing sentences and colouring one item per day in our booklets.

Math:

This week in math we learned the song zero the hero and we did the number zero in our math number book.

Centres:

Tub toys, light table, blocks, playdoh, and the baking centre were  all visited by many students this week.  The highlight was our baking centre where we decorated and shared baking items with our friends in class.

Music:

We continue to practice for our winter solstice concert.  We are singing Jingle Bells. They have the chorus worked out however the words for the verse still require more practice.

Here are the words if you wish to practice with your child.

Dashing through the snow

In a one horse open sleigh

Over the fields we go

Laughing all the way

Bells on bobtails ring

Making spirits bright

What fun it is to ride and sing

On a sleighing song tonight.

Gym:

We played with scoops and balls, scoops, hoops and four corners this week.

80% of learning is visual, which makes having a comprehensive eye exam an important start to a child’s learning journey. The first step is to book an appointment with a doctor of optometry. They will check your child’s vision and eye health during an examination. These exams are covered by Alberta Health*.If it is determined that your child requires eyeglasses, they will receive a free pair of glasses.
