Kindergarten News

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Our book fair is this week Monday - Thursday from 8:30 - 11:30 am.  We hope you are able to support our book fair.

Due to the book fair we will not have library book exchange this Wednesday.  You may keep your book for an extra week.  Remember good readers read books more than once.

Literacy

This week in literacy we read another Robert Munsch book entitled: Put Me in a Book.  We read the book on Monday and discussed our favourite part of the story and why we liked it.  Most of us liked the humour in Robert Munsch's stories.  Some of us liked the illustrations.  On Tuesday we re-read the story and drew a class picture together.  On Wednesday we re-read the story then we drew our favourite part of the story in our visual journals.  We shared our final illustrations with one friend or adult.   Thursday we read the story Rosie's Walk and acted it out.  We were practicing and learning prepositions from this story.  On Friday we read the story Elf on a Shelf and we named our elf Elfie. Elfie is going to move around our classroom this month and watch over us to see if we are following directions and doing our best work.

Math

This week in math we made a variety of designs using elastics and geo boards.  We continued counting forwards, backwards and counting in French on our daily calendar.  We also played our memory and other card games at centres.  Our new game was making ten with two cards.  Example: 3 and 7 make ten.  During snack we had fun learning our numbers while watching Number blocks.

Centres

Block centre where we made three dimensional shapes with our letter foam blocks was a fun place to play this week.  Our house centre and play doh centres remained popular this wee.  Making three dimensional buildings to resemble our downtown skyline at the magnetic block at the light table was a popular centre too.  Other centres were tub toys, Lego, building train tracks and looking at books we have read or exploring new books were visited by many kids this week too.  On Friday we had our grade six buddies read with us and play at centres.  Some of our friends came to the kindergarten room and some of us went upstairs to the grade six room.

Music

Ms. Dafoe was away this week so Ms. McCauley came to visit us and sing songs, practice rhythms and read stories to us.

Gym

We continued moving on scooters in safe ways and played red light green light as well as a tag game on scooters.
