November 20 - 24

Kindergarten News. 

Thank you Kindergarten families for meeting with me on-line or in person to discuss your child's progress.  It was wonderful to have a chance to share information with one another.  I hope you all have a great weekend.  If you did not meet with me on Thursday or Friday I will try to connect with you during pick-up time this week.  

Literacy

In literacy this week we read the story THE ENORMOUS SUITCASE  by: Robert Munsch.  This was a book dedicated to a student in Calgary Alberta.  The transit bus in the story looks exactly like our transit buses.  On Monday we read the story and discussed our favourite part of the story with a friend.  On Tuesday we acted out the story while we were reading it.  On Wednesday we acted the story out and did a class picture of one of the pages after we voted on what picture we wanted to draw as a class.  On Thursday we acted the story out again and then we drew our favourite part of the story in our journals.  I can illustrate and dictate to a scribe my favourite part of the story The Enormous Suitcase.  I can put a who, what happened and where my favourite part of the story took place. 

Math

During our station work this week we added cards to our math station.  We learned how to play memory matching the same numbers together and some of us even learned how to play war.  War is a card game played with two players and the person who has the highest card gets to keep both cards.

Centres


This week at centres we were gifted by one of our parents with some new play food.  We had so much fun visiting our friends at the house centre and coming over for breakfast, lunch or dinner.  Play doh continued to be a favourite centre where we made a variety of play doh food to share with each other.  Tub toys, light table magnet centre, out art centre and block centre were very busy this week too. 

Gym and Music

This week Ms. Dafoe came to our classroom on Monday and Wednesday.  We sang a variety of songs and learned some new rhythms.  

In gym we learned how to travel on scooters in safe and fun ways.  We played red light green light on our scooters and we had some fun races on our scooters.

Upcoming Dates:

DEC. 1 Library Day - please help your child remember to return their book so they can choose a new book to share with you. 

December  5th - 8th. Book Fair.

Doing bear walks, wall pushups, crab walks, cross overs right elbow to left knee, left elbow to right knee, 

burpies and other  fun exercises will help to enhance gross and fine motor skills.

 Dec. 12 - 16 Kindergarten News: Literacy: This week in Literacy we started reading our Twelve Day of Christmas books.  Each day we unwrap a new book and then read our story.  We have had lots of fun and laughs reading our new collection of books.  Thank you to  Ms. Tucker for wrapping and selecting our new books. We have also been helping Elfie, who leaves us a mixed up message every morning to unscramble.   I can learn to read messages from left to right and top to bottom.   I can learn about periods and capitals in morning messages and books.   Our Robert Munsch book this week and next week is Finding Christmas.  We had Mrs. Montgomery our Kindergarten Strategist visit us on Tuesday and read the story to us.  She also brought a game for us to play.  We have presents to hide then we need to give clues to a friend to find the presents we hid.  I can use prepositions to help my friends find the presents.  Example:  The present is under the table.   We continued working at our stations

  January 29 - February 2 Dear Kindergarten Families, Exciting News!  Kindergarten students will now have music with our music specialist Ms. Laney.  We have music first thing on Monday and Wednesdays.  Please help your child to arrive on time so we are ready for music at 8:00.   We have had a very busy week.  Thank you for bringing in the amazing letter treasures for our word search letter hunt game.  The students have been so excited to share and tell about their treasures.    Our letter on Monday is "Rr."  Our letter on Tuesday is "Ll".   Our Letter on Wednesday is "Ww".   Our letter on Thursday is "Jj", and our Letter on Friday is "Yy".   Happy Treasure hunting!   March 11 - 15 Dear Kindergarten Families, We have music on Monday and Wednesdays.  Please help your child to arrive on time so we are ready for music at 8:00.  This week music was cancelled on Wednesday. Thank you to Ms. Nida for helping in our classroom this week. She played number Bingo with a few of the students and had time to play at a variety of centres, as well as helping with many tasks.  We have had a very busy week.  We learned new math games using cards. We read factual and fiction stories about animals to support our Vet Centre.  We shared puppet shows with our friends and some of them were recorded.   Literacy: This week in literacy we read about different kinds of jobs veterinarians have.
