  April  15 - 18 Dear Kindergarten Families, We have music on Monday and Wednesdays.  Please help your child to arrive on time so we are ready for music at 8:00.  This week in music we learned to keep the beat using rhythm sticks. Thank you to Ms. Nida for volunteering in our classroom this week.  We have had a very busy week. We checked on our plants each day to see if they needed  water, and if we noticed any sprouts.  Almost all of our plants have sprouted and some are twice the size of the pot.  Literacy: Our morning messages have been missing letters at the ends of words and we are learning to figure out the missing letters by listening to the sound that the letters make.  We are learning the "ing" ending in the word morn(ing) and other words that appear on our morning message such as the word end(ing). We listened to the story:  The Three Bears.  We compared two different stories written by different authors.  We put the story in order using pictures that we cut out and

  April  8 -12 Dear Kindergarten Families, We have music on Monday and Wednesdays.  Please help your child to arrive on time so we are ready for music at 8:00.  This week music was cancelled on Wednesday because the division 2 students were getting ready for the concert.  We were entertained on Thursday morning by a variety of instruments and songs being played on a variety of instruments.  Thank you to Ms. Nida for volunteering in our classroom this week.  We have had a very busy week. Thank you to Ms. Nida for helping in our classroom this week. She planted flowers with the students and played a few memory games and writing practice. We have had a very busy week.  We learned about the needs of plants and read a few factual stories about plants.  We shared puppet shows with our friends.  The train centre is back and we are having fun delivering our flowers to different places on our train route.   Literacy: This week in literacy we read books about plants and spring.   March 11 - 15 Dear Kindergarten Families, We have music on Monday and Wednesdays.  Please help your child to arrive on time so we are ready for music at 8:00.  This week music was cancelled on Wednesday. She played number Bingo with a few of the students and had time to play at a variety of centres, as well as helping with many tasks.  We have had a very busy week.  We learned new math games using cards. We read factual and fiction stories about animals to support our Vet Centre.  We shared puppet shows with our friends and some of them were recorded.   Literacy: This week in literacy we read about different kinds of jobs veterinarians have. Some work in clinics in the city, some work with farm animals, some work with wild animals.  We read some animal stories and talked about things that could happen to animals that they might need to go to the vet for.   Our morning messages have been filled mixed up words that we have h

  March 4 - 8 Dear Kindergarten Families, We have music on Monday and Wednesdays.  Please help your child to arrive on time so we are ready for music at 8:00.  This week music was cancelled on Wednesday. We have had a very busy week.  We learned new math games using cards. We read factual and fiction stories about animals to support our Vet Centre.  We shared puppet shows with our friends and some of them were recorded.   Literacy: This week in literacy we read about different kinds of jobs veterinarians have. Some work in clinics in the city, some work with farm animals, some work with wild animals.  We drew a picture of our favourite farm animal and our favourite ocean animal. Our morning messages have been filled mixed up words that we have helped our teacher fix.   We are learning that capital letters go at the beginning of a sentence or at the beginning of our name not in the middle of a word or sentence.  We read the book  The Boy Who Ate Books,   By: Oliver Jeffers.  We discusse

     February 26 - March 1 Dear Kindergarten Families, This week we had our swimming lessons at Canyon Meadows.  The students progressed so quickly.  They were so excited to go down the slides or jump off the diving board by the end of the week.  A huge thank you to Ms. Nida, Ms. Jessica and Mr. Brent for volunteering this week.  Your dedication and help in the changing rooms was greatly appreciated by everyone.  Thank you to Ms. Stringer and Ms Guss for arranging and organizing this wonderful experience for our students.   After discussing our week each day we learned that we loved the bus ride to and from the pool and we had lots of fun learning how to swim.  Literacy: This week in literacy we coloured, wrote and read a swimming book that we worked on.  We also made thank you cards for our swimming instructors.  Math: This week in math   we continued working on number talks.  We are learning that there are many ways to represent a number.  We can write a numeral (3).  We can draw obj

    February 20 - 23 Dear Kindergarten Families, We had so much fun in music this week!  We have music first thing on Monday and Wednesdays.  Please help your child to arrive on time so we are ready for music at 8:00.   We have had a very busy week.  Thank you for bringing in the amazing letter treasures for our word search letter hunt game.  The students have been so excited to share and tell about their treasures.    We sorted our treasures in a variety of different ways this week.  We continued to sort our treasures in a variety of ways.  We are learning how to compare objects using mathematical language such as heavier, lighter, longer and shorter.  Literacy: This week in literacy we shared the last two letters of the alphabet we needed to learn  "Vv" and "Zz". treasures.  We sorted them in a variety of ways.  We also drew a picture of our treasure and then wrote one or more sentences about them.  We have some word cards on our word wall board for the students t
